End of Year Update!
The end of the school year already! How time flies…
One of the most important topics we studied in Maths this term was fractions… the boys had a lot of fun deciding if they’d prefer 3/10 or 1/2 of theoretical pizzas, money and other things we could think of. The boys also put their creativity to good use by designing some fraction art and they came up with loads of fantastic designs and images!
We began to grow sunflowers in May, and although most of them didn’t make it due to the great weather and intense heat in our classroom over some weekends, a few sunflowers did make it and grew to be nearly 10cm! One day the boys took a black piece of square card and some pastels and interpreted their own version of Van Gogh’s sunflowers. Look how amazing they turned out… all so unique!
In English we have been reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. It’s a wonderful tale of adventure on the seas and of life on a desert island. After reading the book, we began to construct a diorama of Kensuke’s Island, and watched the 2023 movie adaptation of the book. Congratulations to the boys on their wonderful imagination and creativity shown in their shoebox dioramas.
Finally, we went on tour to Airtastic and had a fantastic time in soft play, bowling and soccer. We were exhausted after it but were delighted to be indoors on a day of torrential rain outside 🙂
Christmas Update!
Time has flown since our Halloween break… here we are in December already!
We spent several weeks starting with Science Week, studying and building robots. First we read about robots in our English textbook, and then we jumped into drawing robots and finally designing and building junk art robots! We collected recyclables at home for week before this and thought creatively about how to build our multifunction robots! Then we had to present our robots to the class and talk about what they could do for us.
That gave us a good idea on how to make a Christmas tree from recyclables. We all chipped in to make and decorate it! In Maths, we’ve been building up our times tables knowledge of 2,4 and 8s… after Christmas we’ll try our hand at division!
As Christmas approaches we’ve been practising some songs to sing at the Christmas concert.. we’ll be singing Christmas Lights and Let It Snow! We’re also looking forward to a cinema trip to see Elf 🙂
September Update:
Third Class are settling into life upstairs! They have lots of new things to contend with including lunchtime football on the astro and writing down homework in their journal!
While settling into a new classroom the boys have been doing lots of work around the theme of Autumn. We’ve been creating some Autumn artwork and last week we went on a nature walk to Laurel Lodge. We explored the bushes and trees and spotted nests, squirrels, blackberries and leaves of all shapes, sizes and colours. Afterwards, there was a few minutes to play some football in the glorious September sunshine. We’re going to go back again in October to see how the trees have changed and finish our comparative artwork!
