Mrs Hyde’s 4th Class
End of Year Update:
4th Class have been very busy during the last term. In Maths, we studied multiplication, division, problem solving, data and chance. The boys collected and compiled data on sport, crisps flavours, transport and travel to school.
In SESE the boys learned about life cycles, extreme climates and The Vikings. We enjoyed a trip to the National Museum of Ireland to see Viking artefacts.
The strand studied in art was printing and construction. We also visited the National Art Gallery to see some works of art there.
We practised fundamental movement skills including skipping, throwing and jumping.
Christmas Update:
It has been a super busy few months in Mrs. Hyde’s 4th Class and the boys have worked very hard.
In Maths the boys completed the topics fractions, decimals, division and money. In the weeks before Christmas the boys enjoyed looking through the Smyths Catalogue. They were given a budget, and they had to calculate which items they could afford and the change (if any!) they had left.
In SESE they learned about the Egyptians, Harvest Festivals around the world and explored light sources during Science Week.
In English the boys continued to improve comprehension skills and writing genres were persuasive and narrative texts.
Outdoor learning took place also. The boys went on a walk to identify signs of Winter and enjoyed a visit to St. Brigid’s Church. We met John from Fingal in Waterville Park who imparted lots of information to us about the swan population in the park.
Halloween update:
Fourth class have been super busy!
They are working very hard at multiplication and have already mastered multiplying 3-digit by 2-digit numbers.
Topics in English have included The Race to Space, Nanotechnology and Build it Big!
The boys used the iPads to research Ancient Egypt and are completing projects on this topic.
As part of the SESE curriculum, the boys enjoyed two trips in the community, one to identify local amenities and one to find signs of autumn.
